002. The munja (sacred thread ceremony) of the Brahmin's son

|| Shri Swami Samarth ||

There was a brahmin from the ghats who had made a vow to Shri Narasimha Saraswati that if he begot a son, he would perform the munja (sacred thread ceremony) at Gangapur

Soon, after the grace of Shri Dattatreya, he begot a son, and as vowed, he left for Gangapur with his family to perform the thread ceremony of his son. By the time he reached Akkalkot, he had exhausted all the money that he had brought with him.

He prayed to Shri Swami Samarth, " I am unable to go to Gangapur and fulfill my vow. You are a Datta-Avatar; please arrange so that my vow is fulfilled here at Akkalkot."

When Maharaj nodded his head, the brahmin was overjoyed and bowed before Him. Soon thereafter he also received some money and was able to perform his son's munja. Shri Dattatreya also appeared to the brahmin in a dream to assure him that his vow had been fulfilled.

Datta Jayanti and Guru Pratipada are celebrated with great pomp and fanfare at Akkalkot

Many devotees at Gangapur receive drushtanta for visiting Akkalkot.
